"During WWII , when the war began in 1941, there were a number of things the government encouraged people to do that were considered patriotic. One of the things was Paper Drives.

I was in the 7th or 8th grade and on Mondays we were given the day off to go out and collect paper and to bring it back to the schools. There were prizes given and acknowledgements for the groups that brought in the most paper."
